“Never help a child with a task in which he feels he can succeed “ — Maria Montessori Introduction The goal of our bilingual Toddler & Casa program is to nurture children’s curiosity and help them begin to develop the social skills, focus and good work habits in a bilingual environment that will prepare them for a smooth transition to elementary school. Daystar’s Toddler Curriculum: Ages 2-3 Our Toddler program provides a bilingual and multicultural education for children from the age of 24 to 36 months. We support our children’s curiosity, and their desire to learn through exploration, as they develop an understanding of their world. We have English medium education in the morning, and Chinese medium education in the afternoon, but due to the young age of our children both lead teachers remain in the room all day, thereby providing the children with the support they require. Program Highlights In Daystar's kindergarten, you can expect our toddlers to be engaged and experience the following: -Communication skills for early language acquisition & literacy -Basic math and sensorial activities -Social and cultural environment -Artistic activities & music -Body, movement and health activities Daystar’s Montessori Casa Program, Ages 3-6 In the Casa classes, the medium of education is English for the first three hours of the day, when we use a Montessori learning approach. In the afternoon the medium of education is Chinese, and we continue our Montessori learning approach. During class time, children receive daily lessons from trained, highly experienced and dedicated Montessori teachers in one of the areas of the classroom (Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Culture). These lessons are usually given one-to-one or in small groups. Program Highlights: -Children manage their own community; they develop independence and a strong sense of self-discipline -Children in our Casa classes are respected, and given as much freedom as possible to develop their concentration, a love of their classroom, their work and their own ideas. -There are basic ground rules in a Montessori classroom about behavior and tidiness but beyond this, children are free to choose their activities and to work for as long as they want. They are free to move and to work independently and/or in groups. Children follow their interests, and teachers challenge and extend the learning. Virtues in Us At Daystar we care about a child’s character development and proactively teach social and emotional skills so that children are aware of not only their own needs but the needs of others around them. We are using a character education program called Virtues in Us that supports a sense of integrity and purpose to life by encouraging children to be reflective on their own actions. Students study 19 virtues and skills in depth through activities like role plays, stories, art, games and songs. Teachers use the language of virtues to help children understand how their acceptable and unacceptable behavior impacts others. Graduating Students Upon graduation, our Casa students are poised to move on and succeed in Daystar’s bilingual inquiry-based program。 They will have mastered the academic skill for both English and Chinese language arts and Math, while exhibiting some key learner profiles and attitudes.
